So About those New Year Resolutions…

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand…” ~ Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

Happy New Year, friends! We’re BACKKK! I’m so thankful to God for keeping us and blessing us with another year to live, laugh, and grow. No matter what chaos might be swirling around you or the world, always remember: God is GOOD. He sees it all, and He’s got you covered. My prayer is that every single day He grants you, you’ll be filled with encouragement and see His glory shining through your life.

I’m SO thankful you’re back here reading the blog! And, hey, I hope you didn’t miss it too much (I mean, we did take a lil break last month). But sometimes, we need to step back and just reconnect with God outside of everything else He’s called us to do. We must keep going back to our Source — He’s our spiritual power bank, and let’s be real, this blog would be nothing without Him. So, ya girl took some time to recharge, and now we’re back and ready to grow in ways we’ve never imagined. Get ready, 2025, we’re coming for you!

Speaking of growth… how’s that New Year resolution going so far? Stats say most people abandon theirs by the end of January, so I’m just checking in LOL. All jokes aside, new year resolutions aren’t bad, but here’s the truth: they can sometimes be a bit… too much. I mean, we set these huge goals and then wonder why they’re hard to keep. Yeah, I said it — some resolutions are just too BIG.

In the christian world, every January, countless people set the goal to read the Bible cover-to-cover. Awesome goal, right? Yeah but here’s the thing: most of us sign up for reading plans that ask us to read 5-6 chapters a day and let’s be forreal — that’s not going to last. What’s your real motive behind the resolution? Is it to flex your spiritual muscles? Or do you want to grow closer to the God of the Bible?

If you want to grow closer to God this year, I have a suggestion: start small, just like Daniel did. Remember him? Scholars say he was about 16 or 17 when he caught everyone’s attention, even the king, for his exceptional wisdom and boldness. The Bible says he was known for his spirit of excellence (Daniel 5:12). Thing is, Daniel wasn’t born extraordinary — he cultivated a small habit that turned into something powerful.

“…He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, AS HE HAD DONE PREVIOUSLY.” ~ Daniel 6:10 (ESV). That was his secret weapon. He spent time with God REGULARLY, and it made him stand out. I mean the guy chose to be burnt alive instead of bowing down and worshipping a statue (Daniel 3:17-18). He had built his spiritual foundation one small habit at a time.

God’s not into our grandiose New Year’s resolutions; He wants our hearts! Whether it’s 5 minutes, 10, 15, or 30, it’s not about the length, it’s about consistency. Spend time with Him, posture your heart to listen and obey, and watch how He moves in your life. God is thrilled when we make the effort and as we do, I believe this year we’ll grow 2gether like never before! Grace and peace 🙂
