SPIRITUAL BASIC TRAINING

Hi friends! Can I say happy new year even though it’s June already? Well, thank you for coming back after my hiatus (smh) and I hope the Lord has been keeping you.

So far, 2026 has definitely been an interesting year, but through it all, God has remained faithful. He’s been pruning me, sharpening me, and teaching me so much. One of the biggest things He’s been showing me lately is spiritual warfare and the importance of being spiritually ready. Now, I’m no preacher or prophet…just a girl who loves the Lord and wants to live for Him and you what the enemy hates?? That! He hates seeing us pursue God wholeheartedly. He hates seeing us truly love and serve the Lord. He hates seeing God work in and through us. So naturally, he tries to distract, discourage, and pull us away. Like scripture says in 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) ~ “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

I don’t bring this up to scare us, but to make us aware that we have a real enemy, one whose goal is to separate us from God. But praise God, we are not without help or hope. So, with that, I’d like to share a little bit of what the Lord has shown me about staying spiritually ready for spiritual warfare.

Recently, I was thinking about how people in the military prepare themselves. Before they can officially serve, they go through a period known as “basic training” which is a rigorous training program designed to transform new recruits from civilians to soldiers. It’s a VERY intense physical, mental and tactical training. Their mindsets are changed because their identities are changed.

If we parallel this to our spiritual lives, as believers, we are no longer children of the world but of God. Because our identity has changed, our minds and lives must also be transformed to reflect Christ. The difference is that our training isn’t temporary. It’s daily! We can’t fight an enemy if we don’t know who we are, what authority we have in Christ and why we’re even fighting in the first place. Therefore, we have to continuously fix our eyes and minds on Christ.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” ~ Romans 12:2 (ESV). This is a daily transformation with the help of Holy Spirit to keep us alert to the enemy’s schemes. Awareness of his schemes is the first step, but being spiritually armed is the next.

Come back next month as we explore the armor of God and the weapons we have in Christ to stand firm and overcome the enemy. Grace and Peace 🙂
